Productivity tools and sites

Google Reader

I've started playing around with Goolge Reader, which is an RSS aggregator. If you sometimes go to the Boston Globe or NY Times home page, you can think of Google Reader as your customized newspaper home page. You can pick and choose what type of things you want to see, including news on almost anything, updates to blogs that interest you, or even podcasts - anything that has an RSS feed. Check it out!

I went one (or three) steps further, and now I have the results of Google Reader downloading to my Palm Treo! I found two tools, SunriseXP and Plucker, which together bring the content down from the Web, save it in a format that I can use on the Palm, and then let me read the content on my phone. I don't love the small screen, but it's a good way to screen articles that I might want to read on line later. It's also handy for the train or whenever I have a few minutes of downtime, and because I download it over my home DSL connection instead of using a wireless web connection on my phone, it's free! The Awesome Highlighter

When you want to send a webpage to someone and want them to pay particular attention to certain parts of the page, you can highlight it and then send the new highlighted link. I thought it was VERY cool!! Check it out. Click here for an article which gives a brief description of the tool. MK

Discovery Education

Main Site

Here’s a link to MANY webinars being offered through Discovery Education.  I believe they’re only for unitedstreaming subscribers, so I wouldn’t suggest putting it out to all the techies that you’re connected with…although it’s a wonderful opportunity to learn! PM

 Typing

I got an email from folks at Discovery Education today and it had a link to a fun typing game.  Although it states in the blog that it’s not necessarily appropriate for kids, it was fun to try! Click here. PM
